Store Rate Method (Recursive Seller-Catalog Mining)

A product-ideation technique: once a single product from a seller checks out (see Three-Part Profitability Filter (Volume, Price Floor, Margin Stack) for the demand/price screen), open that seller's full catalog to mine it for further ideas, then repeat on every new seller surfaced along the way.

Mechanism

  1. Open the promising product's listing.
  2. Click "sold by" to reach the seller profile.
  3. Click "see all products" to view the seller's entire catalog.
  4. Screen each product in that catalog the same way the original was screened.
  5. For any new seller discovered through that catalog, repeat the process on their catalog too.

Rationale

The underlying theory is that if a seller has one good-selling product, they probably have other good products worth investigating — a seller who has figured out sourcing, listing, and demand once has likely done it more than once.

Recursive / "rabbit hole" nature

Because every newly found product belongs to its own seller, and that seller's catalog can be opened in turn, the method has no natural stopping point — it is described as an effectively infinite source of product ideas rather than a one-time search.

Positioning relative to other research tools

The method can be run standalone or used to complement Helium 10 Blackbox (Product Discovery Filters)-driven research: Black Box surfaces candidate products/niches directly from filters, while the store rate method surfaces candidates indirectly, through the catalogs of sellers already validated by one winning product.

Expected friction

Treat it as a numbers game: many sellers, when opened, will have no other useful products. That is expected, not a signal that the method has failed — the researcher simply moves to the next seller.

Downstream check

Once a candidate surfaces via this method, Mold-Dependent vs. Labor-Made Manufacturing (Customization Signal) is used to judge how cheaply it can be differentiated.

One live application of the method traced a real chain of ideas: walking poles (surfaced via Helium 10 Blackbox (Product Discovery Filters)) → the seller Underwood Aggregator → that seller's sleeping bags and pop-up tents → a pop-up tent seller's other products → the play tent idea. Each hop treats the current listing only as a door into its seller's storefront, not as the idea itself — the presenter is explicit that he isn't "fussed about the product" once a seller worth mining has been found. The mechanism is recursive: any new seller surfaced by the method becomes a fresh input to repeat the same process on, which is what makes it an effectively infinite source of product ideas rather than a one-off trick.
