FOB (Free on Board) is an incoterm alternative to DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) and EXW (Ex Works): like EXW, it requires the buyer to arrange their own international freight forwarder and complete EORI Registration before shipping. Under FOB the supplier is responsible for costs and risk only up to loading the goods onto the departure vessel/port; everything downstream (ocean freight, import customs, duties, final-mile delivery) is the buyer's responsibility, handled through the forwarder rather than the supplier.
Contrast with DDP, where the supplier bundles freight and customs clearance into a single delivered price and EORI isn't needed at all. FOB and EXW are functionally treated the same operationally: only use either once you have your own freight forwarder relationship and EORI number in place — otherwise DDP is the simpler default for first-time importers.
