QPO (Query Planning Optimization)

QPO is the middle layer of the ACO framework (per Andrew Bezos's guide, relayed in a 2026 Amazon SEO video): the practice of predicting the whole family of sub-queries — the 'query plan' — that a single shopping mission fans out into, then assessing how many of those sub-queries a product can be found by and honestly win. It reframes the optimization target: 'you're no longer trying to rank for a keyword, you're trying to be eligible across the whole family of queries that one shopping mission generates.' This exists because AI shopping agents (Rufus (Amazon's AI Shopping Assistant), Alexa for shopping) fan a single prompt like 'find something for my kids in our home' into dozens of sub-searches rather than one query, sitting atop the classic Amazon A9 Algorithm retrieval layer.

Practically, QPO is operationalized by mapping query plans via autocomplete and Alexa follow-up prompts, then building NPO (Noun Phrase Optimization) content to cover the resulting phrase family, and using Amazon Search Query Performance (SQP) Report data to see which mission-relevant queries a product is visible on but losing.
